Karen Cargill Appears at Carnegie Hall

Right in the middle of Tartan Week, mezzo soprano Karen Cargill made her New York concert debut at Carnegie Hall - a perfect match of a Scottish singer with a great concert hall built by another Scot! Ms. Cargill (who was interviewed by Scotia-News for our Sept. issue in 2013) was accompanied on the piano by the extremely talented Simon Lepper.

The virtually sold out concert concert consisted of works by Mahler, Wagner and Grieg. Ms. Cargill received a standing ovation at the end of her performance and performed three encores, including one song from the Hebrides. Her voice is rich and expressive and her performance maintains the same dramatic quality we heard in her Metropolitan Opera performance. Lepper's piano accompaniment blended perfectly with her performance, and often the piano and voice seemed almost to be performing a duet.

We can't wait for Ms. Cargill's return to New York!
