Lab/HW #10: Artificial Intelligence

  1. Expert Systems: Go to the Logic Programming Associates web page and select the Products tab. Then select the ProWeb Server demos. Pick a topic of conversation and start "talking" with Eliza and then Chat-80. The coversation should last a fewe minutes. In a paragraph, describe your experience with each expert system - did the system seem to understand what you were talking about? did you get through the conversation or did the system go it's on way?

  2. Genetic Algorithms: Go to the End The World game website . Click on the button to start the game and watch how it works. Then change the settings to see how different vales for mutation make an impact on the "world". Under the WorldDesign menu item, click on the sub-men item Mutation Probability. Run the game with vales of (a) Zero (b).25% (c) 2% and (d) 10% . Under Speed, select Fastest so you will only see the stats table. Run each "game" for 1000 years and describe what happens to the 100 year average under each different Mutation Probability. What does mutation do in a genetic algorithm?

  3. Intelligent agents (shopping bots): Go shopping on MySimon and Bizrate for a Fujifil Finepix s4000. What type of information do these two websites in response to your request? Are the similar or different? If different, in what ways? Pick a product you are interested in and describe the results from both websites.

  4. The ThinkQuest website has a simple example of a neural net . The neural net is supposed to tell you if a 6 letter word is likely or unlikely to be a real word. Read the description of this neural net under the Planning the Network. How many layers does it have? What does each layer do? Read under Input Data how the network was trained? Try 6 real words and 6 non-words. List each word you entered and the outcome of the neural net. What is your opinion of the usefulness of this neural net?
