Prof. John Beatty

John Beatty had a career in the performing arts, beginning as a puppeteer and later as an actor and singer appearing in a number of New York stage productions and commercially released films, often playing the roles of monsters.

As professor of anthropology at Brooklyn College of the City University of New York, and teaches courses in anthropology and linguistics there and courses in ethno- and archaeoastronomy at the Hayden Planetarium in the Rose Center of the American Museum of Natural History as well. He has taught and lectured at several universities in the United States and universities in Germany, Scotland and Japan.

Prof. Beatty is the director of the American Indian Institute at Brooklyn College as well as curator of the anthropology department's traveling museum.

His publications include several books and numerous articles in scientific journals.

He has been Master of Ceremonies and lecturer at the Festival since its inception in 1994.
