STATEMENT

This year’s festival is being held exclusively at the Community Theater. This past year the Saenger was damaged by a tornado which ripped off the roof and which, according to the engineers, cause some structural damage to the theater rendering it unusable for the festival this year. Hopefully next year we will be back!

The tragic events in New York City have also had an impact on the festival. Many of the stars are unwilling to fly at this time, but we have been extremely fortunate to have the Academy Award winning star of Broadway and Hollywood, Celeste Holm who was willing to brave the airways and come to the festival. We will be screening two of her films, Gentlemen’s Agreement and All About Eve which also stars Bette Davis.

Friday starts off with a symposium about prejudice and the depiction of "the other" in films as a kind of prelude to the award winning film Gentlemen’s Agreement.

In the evening, Ms. Celeste Holm will appear following the showing of All About Eve. Immediately following the film, she will be interviewed by Prof. Foster Hirsch.

On Saturday matinee involves a set of four silent film comedies.

The two films being shown on Saturday evening, Sherlock Jr. (starring Buster Keaton) and Purple Rose of Cairo (starring Mia Farrow and with Pine Bluff guest of several years past, Mr. Van Johnson) deal with characters literally going in and out of movies, and relates to Fridays showing of All About Eve in which Eve wants to be in the theater and films too!

We hope to see you all there. Remember this year we are only at the Community Theater, so seating is limited. We advise making reservations!

ACKOWLEDGEMENTS
