ANSWER TO QUESTION EIGHT

Why is the legacy of Andrew Carnegie so important to library land?

Between 1886 and 1919, Andrew Carnegie donated 56 million dollars to build over 2,000 libraries throughout the United States. Carnegie used the money for the construction of the buildings themselves. The local community in which the library was located was in charge of collection development, mission and staff. Carnegie had prospered in the iron and steel industry and was also a Scottish immigrant.
