Elizabeth Bonina.          The attached e-mail was received by Gladys Pemberton, 1st Vice

5th Vice Chair              Chairman, from Professor John Beatty.

Susan Cleary

Secretary                      He is endeavoring to have the 79th Highland Regiment become an official regiment of New York State's Militia.

Carmine Evangelists

Treasurer                      He indicates the support of the Caledonian Club who have apparently written Governor Pataki as well in this regard.

The U. S. Congress has voted April 6th as "Tartan Day" in the United States to honor Scottish Americans, and Professor Beatty is asking Governor Pataki to raise this regiment on that day as New York State's recognition of the contribution of the Scotts, Scots-lrish and Irish Americans in New York State and throughout the Country .

This regiment would be an official volunteer unit of the State; like the New York Guard.

After reading his letter J I feel this is a worthwhile project and one that could enhance relations with our Scottish and Irish Americans here in New York. His e-mail address, home and

college address, phone and fax numbers are indicated on the attached e-mail.

If this idea is feasible and since April 6tn is not far off, please have someone contact Professor John Beatty to discuss this further. If I can be of any assistance in this matter, please let me know.
