This shadow puppet from Indonesia represents "Bromo", an important figure in the Indonesia stories.

Shadow puppets, like rod puppets are worked from below. The puppets lack a three dimensional quality, but this is replaced by the ability of the puppeteer to place the puppe in such a way that the figure can grow, or change perspective by changing its orientation to the light which casts the shadow, and the screeen on which the shadow falls.
