THE TERM PAPER

The term paper is to be an analysis of a monster film. The paper MUST include the following information:

(a) on what grounds did you define the "monster" as a "monster"
(b) what characteristics does the film have which allow you to classify it as a monster movie?
(c) what does the monster represent in the film and how does it fit into the subtext?

This means you need to discuss both the concept of "monster" as well as "monster movie" in your paper. In effect, you need to justify your choice of film. You do NOT need to make this a reference paper, but if you decide to use material from ANYWHERE (bonus tracks on DVDs included) your paper MUST be properly referenced and contain a bibliography which has all the materials cited in the paper, properly listed. If you fail to do this, it is plagiarism and will lead to an "F" in the course. Quoting material from other sources in a paper is completely acceptable as long as the main ideas in the paper are yours.

The paper MUST be written in proper academic style. The paper is NOT the equivalent of writing an e-mail to your friends. Do NOT write slang and be sure that your sentences are grammatically correct!

THE FINAL EXAM

THE FINAL EXAM IS JULY 8th 2006 FROM 8:00 a.m. TO 10:00 a.m.

The final exam is an essay final. The questions are (as usual) general. Examples for the essays should be drawn from the films viewed in class. Some essay question may ask you to comment directly about some of the films seen in class.

There will be one question asking you to write a BRIEF book report about the book(s) you read.
