GRAMMAR: WORD ORDER
Word Order
In general, the subject appears first followed by the verb. If the subject is NOT first, then it follows the verb
Ich gehe nach Berlin. (I go to Berlin)
Heute gehe ich nach Berlin (Today I go to Berlin)
In Questions
Subject verb => verb subject
Du gehst ins Kino (You go to the movies.)
Gehst du ins Kino (Do you go to the movies?)
In dependent clauses
In a dependent clause, the verb moves to the end of the clause. I stay in bed if I am sick.
Ich bleibe im Bett, wenn ich krank bin.
If the dependent clause comes first, then the independent clause must invert the subject and object
Wenn ich krank bin, bleibe ich im Bett.
