THINGS TO KNOW FOR THE FINAL

The course deals with the "language of film" - how film communicates meaning. Both in class and in the "Eleanor Rigby" paper we have discussed the concepts of domains and variables. You should have a good grasp on this concept and how it applies to film analysis. What domains are there in films and what cariables. You should know how the variables are involved with the "meaning" or the "message" sent by the film's author.

You should be familiar with the basic concepts of film studies and be able to relate these to films we have seen in during the class. This means you should know definitions and how to apply them to film anaysis to get to the text and subtext. You should have an understanding of the idea that the film maker is the sender of the message and the audience the receiver of the message which is coded in the domains and variables discussed during the term,

There are no questions about any specific films, but any examples you use must be from films shown in class this term.
